What is M365 Defender?

Since I started working with Defender, or ATP (advanced threat protection) as it was called then, there has been tremendous amount of change.
Some of it was attributed to product consolidation into product families.
M365 Defender includes MDE, MDO, MDI, and MDCA. These tools were all in standalone portals prior, but as moved into M365 Defender got integrated with a single portal for all tools under "security.microsoft.com" where expansion to further integrate to accomodate where able to add benefit.
So that leaves endpoints, emails, identity, and applications all in one single pane of view. This diagram showcase the group of products, and some of the features that is provided:
